Prof. J.W. Elsner Competition
for the best scientific work in fluid mechanics

The competition is organized under the auspices of PTMTS (Polish Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics) and Polish Pilot Centre of ERCOFTAC and held during each of the Fluid Mechanics Conference. The competition is aimed at promotion of research achievements of young outstanding scientists working in the field of fluid mechanics.

Rules of Competition

The competitors, either MSc or PhD up to 35 years of age, should present individual or joint papers with supervisors, containing original experimental, numerical or analytical results. Entry for competition requires the submission of abstract prepared at the template provided by Fluid Mechanics Conference organizers and the declared entry into the Competition.

The competition winners will be awarded with diplomas and prizes:

• 1st prize – 1800 PLN. funded by Fluid Mechanics Conference organizers,
• 2nd prize – 1200 PLN. funded by Polish Pilot Centre of ERCOFTAC,
• 3rd prize – 600 PLN. funded by Częstochowa Branch of Polish Society for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics.

The two stage selection procedure is applied. Papers qualified for the second stage of selection will be published in full volume in Conference proceedings (indexed by WoS) or may be recommended for publication in Journal of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. Publication of recommended papers is performed with the usual reviewing process. Authors are obliged to place an acknowledgment to the competition. The report on this event and list of laureates will be published in PTMTS and ERCOFTAC bulletins.

Procedure

The two-stage selection procedure is applied. The first stage is aim at selection 5 best papers which will be presented during the Plenary Competition Session. The first stage selection is performed by the Competition Organizing Committee composed of:

• Chairman of the Częstochowa Branch of Polish Society for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics or the person appointed by the Chairman,
• Chairman of the Fluid Mechanics Section of Mechanics Committee of Polish Academy of Sciences or the person appointed by the Chairman,
• Chairman of the Polish Pilot Centre of ERCOFTAC or the person appointed by the Chairman,
• Chairman of the Organizing Committee of Fluid Mechanics Conference or the person appointed by the Chairman,
• Competition Organizing Committee Chairman appointed by the Chairman of the Fluid Mechanics Section of Mechanics Committee of Polish Academy of Sciences.

The selection procedure in the first stage is based on the basis of abstracts, which are evaluated by members of Scientific Committee of Fluid Mechanics Conference. The 5 papers with top scores are nominated for the second stage of Competition. Competition Organizing Committee is responsible for selection procedure. The number of entries for the final stage may be changed by the Committee.

Papers qualified for the second stage of selection must be presented during the special plenary Competition Session organized during the Fluid Mechanics Conference. The contents and quality of presentation is evaluated by the Competition Jury.

Competition Jury is composed of members of Competition Organizing Committee, Scientific Committee of Fluid Mechanics Conference and members of Fluid Mechanics Section of Mechanics Committee attending the conference. The meeting is chaired by Competition Organizing Committee Chairman.
